Community Action Resource Centre
The Community Action Resource Centre serves as the local food bank for Lawrence Heights and the surrounding neighbourhoods as well as an information and referral resource for those communities. Co-located with our main office, North York Harvest has been coordinating the local food bank program in Lawrence Heights since we moved to this location in 2001.
As with other food assistance programs in our catchment, participants can access a 3-day food basket twice per month; however, the program also staffs a full-time coordinator who provides information and referral services for people seeking additional supports such as employment, settlement, mental health, education, and government resources. With the support of our community garden program, the Community Action Resource Centre also maintains 20 raised bed planters which produce a variety of fruits and vegetables during the growing season.
The program is supported by over 30 volunteers and runs Monday to Friday with both daytime and evening hours.
