Harvest to Hand Community Gardens

Community launch for Jane/Finch garden

The Harvest to Hand Community Garden program supports member agencies to develop and maintain their own garden projects during the growing season. With the assistance of a seasonal, full-time gardener, North York Harvest has been providing support to five member agencies to grow fresh produce alongside their conventional food programming.

Community gardens support food assistance programs in a number of ways. Firstly, they provide a reliable source of fresh produce during the summer months at a time when food bank inventories are traditionally low. They also offer community building opportunities where community members can come together to socialize, share skills, and support each other through collective food production. Finally, gardens demonstrate an alternative access point to healthy, nutritious food in urban settings.
