Photo-Op: Food collection at North York apartment building launches GTA Apartment Building Food Drive in benefit of the North York Harvest Food Bank

Residents of more than 170 apartment buildings in northern Toronto will collect food on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 in support of the North York Harvest Food Bank during the Greater Toronto Apartment Association’s (GTAA) annual Spring Hope Food Drive. Part of a city-wide effort, the drive raised over 164,000 lbs of food last year for GTA-area food banks.

“We are thrilled to be one of the primary beneficiaries of this drive, particularly as we head into the summer, a typically ‘dry’ time for food banks,” said Anette Chawla, Executive Director, North York Harvest Food Bank. “The food collected during this drive will help sustain our services in the months ahead. We have seen dramatic increases in food bank use over the last six months and fully expect the need to continue to increase.”

WHAT: Residents and volunteers will collect food door-to-door and load the first batch of food on to the food bank truck.
