North York Harvest Highlights Need for Donations with Cooking Demonstration

TORONTO – The North York Harvest Food Bank is hosting a cooking demonstration on March 23 with executive chef Tom Filippou to highlight the need for donations during the food bank’s annual spring food drive running until April 9.

Tom Filippou, Executive Chef, President’s Choice® Cooking School, will be preparing tasty, nutritious dishes made from food items that are typically donated during food drives. He will be joined by food bank Executive Director Anette Chawla.

The demonstration will show how easy-to-cook, nutritious meals can be prepared from non-perishable food items.

The North York Harvest Food Bank is the second-largest food bank in Toronto, distributing more than 1.4 million pounds of food last year through 60 neighbourhood programs. An independent, charitable organization, it envisions a community where all members are able to meet their food needs. In 2009, more than 160,000 food hampers were provided to people living in northern Toronto, an area bounded by Hwy. 27, Steeles Avenue, Victoria Park Avenue, and St. Clair Avenue/Eglinton Avenue.
